In 2011 Pieter Smits opened his restaurant Rijsel in an old school building in the Marcusstraat. While entering through the monumental entrance, you will get a warm welcome from the host. How we love that!
Restaurant Rijsel mainly serves French cuisine with a Flemish touch. The menu is limited but varies regularly with fresh and unique dishes. You should definitely try the Poussin, a delicious juicy grilled chicken with fresh vegetables (my favourite!). But actually, all the dishes of restaurant Rijsel are remarkably tasty and the presentation of the food is very, very nice.
Interior restaurant Rijsel
Next to all the good food and great service, the interior gives you a bit of a back to basics feel. High ceilings, tables with vintage metal legs, the white painted walls, the beautiful wooden floor that extends into stone, and through the open kitchen you can see how the dishes are prepared with love and care.
In short: powerful food and super service, as it should be!
