If you think of dining and Leidseplein Amsterdam, you think of the many bad tourist restaurants. Not really our cup of tea.
On recommendation of friends and a well-known culinary reporter, we decided to give Saigon Cafe a try.
Saigon Cafe is located in the Leidsestraat above the Mac Donalds. Do pay attention when searching for Saigon, because you’ll walk right past. The entrance has a classic brown interior with red velvet wallpaper, and the second level looked just as good.
Famous Vietnamese Noodle Soup
We were particularly curious about the Pho (pronounced Fuh). This is a super famous Vietnamese noodle soup, and well known all over the world except in the Netherlands.
We always use to drive to Paris especially for this soup, so you can imagine that we had our hopes set high when we ordered the Pho hesitantly but also curiously, and my how delicious! Thank you Saigon Café for saving us the long trips to Paris!
Tip: Absolutely try the Pho with raw beef (our favourite) and for dessert the che chuoi (stewed banana in warm coconut vla)!
