Do you want to escape the busy crowd? Then we recommend you to visit Cheung Chau Island for a day. Cheung Chau is a small fisherman’s village with a very laid-back vibe. You can visit local temples or stroll around the huge rocks with super nice views of the South-Chinese Sea.
Street seafood in Cheung Chau
Cheung Chau is also known for their famous seafood stands. You can find them at the boulevard next to each other where they all sell the same fish and seafood. You choose out of the big glass aquariums what you want to eat, tell them your favorite sauce and they will cook you a fantastic meal. It’s so good!
Golden sandbeaches in Hong Kong
And believe it or not, Hong Kong is also blessed with golden sandbeaches. You will find them on Cheung Chau Island. The most popular beach is Tung Wan. During the weekends it’s always very crowded and super fun.
Don’t be surprised when you see the locals wearing their t-shirts and caps while swimming. This is not because they’re prude or because they’re ashamed of their bodies, but Chinese people just don’t like to tan.
Cheung Chau is definitely a must-go if you want to explore another side of Hong Kong. We certainly visit this fisherman’s village everytime when we’re in Hong Kong.
